photoI spent hours today out in the sun and humidity, helping to build a deck. I had my own set of power tools–which is always a good time. Throughout the day, I did plenty of stretches, drank tons of water, used every yoga move I know to climb onto the deck, navigate the planks, and get back down again, over and over. And all the while, I marveled at my age. In my head, I heard the words of my friend Francesca saying, “In Italy, we are not our ages. It does not define us. We don’t say ‘I am 50 years old;’ we say, ‘I have 50 years.’ Age is not something we are. It’s something we have. We possess it.”

I just love that.
