About Jody Brown

Jody Brown is a novelist, poet, multi-blogger, and traveler. Her first book, Upside Down Kingdom, was published in 2012 and is based on her experience living and working in Washington, D.C. from 2000-02, including her first-hand experience during the tragedy of September 11. “I set out to write this book as a love letter to Dupont Circle,” says Brown, “and I meant it to be read by recent graduates entering the workforce to support their ‘yes, this is the real world and it’s nuts’ perspective. But I quickly found that anyone in a state of transition tends to gravitate toward this book for its humor, fiery spirit, and its hope.”

Its first year in print, Upside Down Kingdom was taught by Dr. John Sievers for his college course, The Art of Being Human, a Humanities course instructing the way we think about life, art, and how we treat one another. Upside Down Kingdom was required reading.

Brown is the recipient of a Southeastern Minnesota Arts Council (SEMAC) grant from the McKnight Foundation for her work on  “Walk of Life: Interviews with a WWII Veteran.” Brown is currently writing her second work of historical fiction based on the findings of those interviews. (This activity is made possible by the generosity of the McKnight Foundation through a grant from the Southeastern Minnesota Arts Council.)

Believing that the mind works better when exercised in multiple directions, Brown writes a blog at www.FineLineBooks.wordpress.com and has written a wine column for Rochester Women Magazine as well as various freelance projects. In addition, Brown is writing poetry, adding to her collection of Zombie Sonnets and Maintenance Poems, and plans to pen her first book of science fiction based on a short story she wrote. For more on the projects on her writing desk, see JodyBrown.com/writing.

Jody Brown has a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Fiction and Poetry Writing from the University of Pittsburgh. She currently lives north of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
