Did you see me somewhere and can’t remember where or when? Here’s a list of my Past Speaking Events:

*I signed copies of Upside Down Kingdom  at the Knoch Craft Show in Saxonburg, Pennsylvania, on November 14.

*Upside Down Kingdom and I were at the Berge Open House, Rochester, Minnesota, October 31 & 31, 2015.

*Upside Down Kingdom and I were at the Springdale Free Public Library’s Local Author Open House on August 15.

*Upside Down Kingdom was on sale at the first ever Authors Booth at Thursdays on First in Rochester, Minnesota, on June 18, July 2, July 9, & July 16.  Special thanks to my friend and fellow author Mike Kalmbach for organizing 20+ writers to make this happen!

*I sat in on the Mars Library Book Club (beautifully name “Martians Love to Read Too”) for their June 10 meeting in Mars, Pennsylvania as they discussed their reading of Upside Down Kingdom. I was privy to beautiful comments like, “You made downright crazy people sound approachable and human,” and, “You wrote tough subject matter and didn’t drag it out or linger on it.” It was an eye-opening time with a very fun-loving group. Thank you, Martians!

*I signed copies of Upside Down Kingdom at the spring Berge Open House in Rochester, Minnesota, April 24 & 25.

2014
*I signed copies of Upside Down Kingdom at the annual Faith Evangelical Lutheran Church Bazaar in Natrona Heights, Pennsylvania, on Saturday, November 8.

*Upside Down Kingdom was on sale at the Knoch High School Craft Show in Saxonburg, Pennsylvania, on Saturday, November 8.

*I signed copies of Upside Down Kingdom at the Butler Memorial Hospital Auxiliary Fall Craft Show in Butler, Pennsylvania, on October 23 & 24.

*In July 2014, my essay, “In the Attic,” was featured in the first printed edition of the ReVerb’s GOOD OPUS. Accompanying the piece is artwork drawn by the talented Simon Huelsbeck.

*On May 10, I read my poem Barbie which was chosen for inclusion in this year’s Crossings at Carnegie Poet-Artist Collaboration. It was on display for six weeks in Zumbrota, Minnesota.

*I signed books at the Berge Spring Open House and Art Collective in Rochester, May 2 & 3.

*For the very first time, I showcased some of my interviews with a 91-year-old veteran at my event at The Salon on April 24, and afterwards, I was asked to keep this work hanging on the wall for another two weeks: Words to live by, inspirational messages, the ugliness and poignancy of war, the resolution to strive for better, all from a perspective that’s seen 91 years and multiple continents. Thomas and the Rain performed at the event, and photographer Ana Gotmer Photography had a display of her photographs. (This activity is made possible by the generosity of the McKnight Foundation through a grant from the Southeastern Minnesota Arts Council.)

*I performed my “Zombie Sonnets,” specially written for this event, at the Shakespeare slam on April 22 at RCTC, part of the second slam put on this year by poet Pam Whitfield.

*I participated in a panel discussion about women writers at Calvary Episcopal Church in Rochester on April 6.

*I participated in a writing/publishing workshop event, A Gathering of Writers, at the C4 Creative Salon in Rochester on April 5.

*I read at La Notte delle Donne Due (The Night of Women II) at the C4 Creative Salon on March 15.

*I read “This is Love?!?” poetry event by invitation from poet Pam Whitfield at her Poetry Slam at RCTC on February 14.

*I signed books at the Cannon River Winery in Cannon Falls, Minnesota, on February 8 from 12-5 p.m. as part of their event, the Annual Local Authors Celebration. How could I resist wine and books together in one place? Turns out, my instincts were right: It was a great afternoon with old and new friends, wine, and Upside Down Kingdom.

2013
*I read at the Barn Bar Poetry Night December 15 in Rochester, MN. The Barn Bar sells Upside Down Kingdom and is always an awesome good time, even in the freezing cold!

*I signed books at the amazing Berge Open House on December 7 and November 23.

*The ReVerb posted an interview with me.

*I was cordially invited by artist Bobby Marinez to participate in his event, One Night of Art Finale at the C4 Salon on November 16. My friend and local poet, Chris Atwood, agreed to be my stunt double for this event, reading my poetry as well as his own alongside local phenoms Sophie Marie, Dave van Eijl, and Danny Solis. Doors open at 6. Poetry starts at 7. Music at 8. Art abounds.

*I was named Champion of the Drank Idiom Poetry Slam-Off event on November 10 at the Tap House in Rochester. The Slam-Off invited all of the past Slam winners to compete against one another for an overall victor. It was no easy feat: Rochester has some amazingly talented poets of all styles. These last four months of competition have been a great learning and sharing experience for us all as poets and as new friends.

*I signed books at the Berge Open House October 25 & 26.

*I read at the Drank Idiom Poetry Slam at the Tap House in Rochester on Sunday, Oct. 13.

*On October 9, I read my work by invitation at the St. Paul Almanac Literary Festival, an event organized by Cracked Walnut.

*On September 22, I won the Drank Idiom Slam at the Tap House in Rochester. I can return to read in future slam events, but not in the competition rounds. However, I am now included with other winners to present our work in Minneapolis.

*I was part of the Venue in Rochester on September 21, with Upside Down Kingdom for sale and scrolls of poetry for the taking.

*In August, I met with my first-ever book club in Rochester. They decided on dinner at Söntés Restaurant, so we got together for an evening of food, wine, and book-talk. It was a fantastic evening!

*I signed books at the Annual Celebration of Rochester Area Authors on July 18 at the Rochester Public Library. There were over a dozen of us there, and I was in the minority with only one published book. There are great and prolific writers in this snowy town!

*In Spring, 2013, I was asked to do the KSMQ show Off90. KSMQ is broadcast from Austin, MN, but they sent a camera crew to Rochester to follow me around for a couple of days. Together, we had a blast filming my crazy life. The show aired in June 2013, replays quarterly, and is available in its entirety on YouTube. When I figure out how to link just my part of the show, I’ll put that on JodyBrown.com.

*I read at the C4 Salon in Rochester on June 7 as part of the Cracked Walnut traveling reading series. *I signed books at the Berge Open House in Rochester, MN, April 26-27.

*I spoke to Dr. John Sievers’ Humanities class at Rochester Community and Technical College in Rochester, MN in Spring 2013 and Fall 2012. Dr. Sievers taught Upside Down Kingdom in his class, The Art of Being Human. It was a great honor to be required reading for a class that instructed the way we think about life, art, religion, and the way we treat one another.

*I spoke at the Rochester Public Library in March 2013 on Upside Down Kingdom, current projects, and my publishing process. It was a fun night with a lot of great audience questions.
